Trusted language agency for revision services

Swisstranslate is a translation agency with offices in Geneva, Zurich and Paris. For almost 10 years, we have been helping our customers with their language projects, and working with them to create tailor-made solutions to meet their needs and requirements. Swisstranslate offers a number of services, including revision. To ensure that the translation is of the highest quality and perfectly matches your requirements, it is important that it is revised.

What is revision?

Revision involves examining a document from a stylistic and linguistic point of view. Unlike proofreading, the aim is not just to correct spelling, grammatical, punctuation, typographical and syntactical errors, but to improve the text in its entirety. The aim is to make the text easier and more enjoyable to read and understand. Revision is carried out against the source text to preserve its meaning, so that the ideas are transcribed in the best possible way and the translation’s comprehension is faithful to the original text, while proofreading corrects the translated text without interfering with its meaning. These two stages complement each other and add real value to the translation, providing greater accuracy and reliability.

The copy editor (the person who revises a document) makes a careful comparison between the source content and the translated text. They monitor four main points:

  • Omissions: the translator must not have forgotten anything
  • Figures and proper names: the copy editor checks that dates, figures, percentages, data and proper names correspond to the original document.
  • Consistency of vocabulary: the copy editor checks that recurring terms have been translated in the same way everywhere, to ensure the overall harmony of the translation.
  • Adapting the translated content to the cultural and legal context of the target audience

Revision plays a crucial role in a translation project, as it corrects any errors in the translation that could have a negative impact on the credibility of both the translation agency and its customer. In the end, revision means double-checking to ensure that the texts are perfectly translated.

The copy editor can also take a fresh look at the translation. Once the translation has been completed, a second person (copy editor) will provide an external, objective view of the work carried out.

Why choose our agency for your revision?

More than 3,000 language experts make up our agency’s teams, putting their skills to work on your project. At Swisstranslate, we are professional and experienced copy editors. We are completely at ease with the spelling, grammar and typographical rules of the target language. We have an informed and accurate view of all types of errors and possible typos in the translation.

To guarantee a reliable and professional revision, at Swisstranslate all our linguists are native speakers. They have a perfect command of the target language and are familiar with the linguistic mechanisms that enable them to capture the meaning and nuance of your text. We are always punctual, so you can be sure that your project will be delivered on the date agreed with you beforehand.

Swisstranslate also attaches great importance to respecting the confidentiality of your data. To achieve this, we use secure software which is hosted in Switzerland, to manage your data, and to which only our teams have access. We will delete your project once it has been delivered and sign a confidentiality agreement (NDA) with you. Similarly, the confidentiality of your documents is respected, as all our expert linguists are bound by professional secrecy. They undertake not to reveal any information to which they have access when translating or revising your content.

Stages in the revision process

Once our offer has been approved, your project will be assigned to a project manager. The translation is then carried out by specialist translators who are native speakers of the target language. Then comes the revision process. An experienced and qualified copy editor from Swisstranslate will revise your documents. Revision may, or may not, be in addition to proofreading.

Once the revision is complete, we send you the document(s) for approval. The project manager will be happy to assist you, answer any questions you may have and make any necessary changes right up to final delivery. At Swisstranslate, your satisfaction is our priority, and we are committed to seeing your project through from start to finish. We listen to your needs and respond quickly to your requests.
